Even once you have practiced, learned your tricks and feel as though you are ready to get out there and have the world see what you can do, you will then need to turn your attention to the world of marketing. Regardless of whether or not you are still willing to do your magic for free, it is necessary that you get in front of audiences whenever it is possible.

Great Tricks and Your Audience Go Hand in Hand

Being able to perform your magic tricks is only one part of being an engaging and entertaining performer. Consider the magic of Penn and Teller, for example. So much of their famous magic act is in the comedy that goes along with it. This is not to state that all of your card magic tricks need to be accompanied by a joke, however, you do need to remember that your audience is comprised of living, breathing beings. The second major part of being a good magician is to keep your audience well engaged. The more you can get in front of an audience, the sharper your skills will become. The saying "practice makes perfect" may be an old one, but there is much truth in it.

You Need Practice in Front of an Audience

Since you need practice and experience in front of an audience in order to grow, you will need to reach the public, and that means marketing. There are lots of ways to market your skills as a magician. These days everyone has an online presence in some form or another and you should as well. Covering the basics such as having a decent website, Facebook page and Twitter profile is a good beginning, but don't be afraid to think out of the box, especially if you have a marketing budget, even a small one.

Even a Small Marketing Budget Can Work Some Magic

With a small marketing budget, you can experiment with different marketing options in your area. Some possibilities are advertising before movies at your local movie theater or taking out a small advertisement in a local paper. The point is to discover what options are available for you and then evaluate which ones work for your budget. You might be surprised to discover that there are many affordable options available.

Additionally, there are many marketing options that are free, such as community message boards in coffee shops and stores in your area. You might also have luck with stores allowing you to place a small poster or postcard in their store. This can be particularly helpful if you place information about you and your magic performances in entertainment related locations such as music stores.

When it comes to marketing, always be ready to think out of the box. You never know from where your next client may hear about you and your magic. The bottom line is to spread the word as much as possible.
